PHOENIX (KSAZ) – An Iraq veteran stopped in the valley to pick up his trained service dog. The training was made possible because of donations raised by an 8-year-old girl.

Nick Bailey lives in North Charleston, South Carolina. He spent 12 and a half years protecting our country before getting injured during a mortar attack in Iraq.

He had injured his spine and nerves and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Bailey received national attention in August when 8-year-old Rachel Mennett, who had never met Nick, heard he was trying to raise enough money for service dog training.

Mennett set up a lemonade stand inside a pet store Nick frequently visited to raise money for his dog, a German Shepherd named Abel, to get training.

The little girl ended up raising over $6,000.

Bailey was able to use the money to hire a dog trainer in his town, but the trainer ended up failing miserably.

Luckily, Bailey got his money back and later found Your Dog Guru in Phoenix.

Jimi Livshitz, with Your Dog Guru, was able to successfully train Abel and return him to Bailey.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
